SuperC
The ISPF utility that compares two datasets or members and lists the differences.
Also written ISRSUPC, COMPARE command, ISPF 3.12, ISPF 3.13, compare utility
SuperC is ISPF's compare utility. You give it two datasets or two members, an old version and a new one, and it produces a listing that shows which lines were inserted, deleted or changed.
You can reach it from ISPF option 3.12, or 3.13 for the extended version with more options. Inside the editor, the COMPARE command compares the member you are editing with another one and marks the differences on screen, which is often quicker. In batch, the program behind it is ISRSUPC.
In the listing, inserted lines are marked I and deleted lines D, with a summary of the counts at the end. Options let you ignore things that do not matter, such as sequence numbers in columns 73 to 80, or changes only in blanks.
Comparing is a daily task. You compare your changed program with the production version before promotion, check what changed between two versions of a PROC, or see why two files that should be the same are not. Reviewers often ask for a SuperC listing as part of a change.
Where can I learn this hands-on?
Right here, at ZedBank. You take a junior job at a simulated bank and learn each part of the work by doing it, with Zed beside you. There's nothing to install.
