LOGOFF
Ends your session and signs you out.
Why it matters. A session left open is a session anyone can use. Signing off keeps your ID yours.
Syntax
LOGOFF [DISCONNECT | HOLD]
- DISCONNECT
- Drop the line after you log off. This is the default.
- HOLD
- Keep the line. Not supported on VTAM terminals.
Try it LOGOFF
- 1
End your session.
LOGOFF - 2
Sign back on as ZB0001.
LOGON ===> LOGON ZB0001
ZedBank practice system
READY
Nothing here is saved
Remember
- LOGOFF needs no operands.
- Use it every time you leave your desk.
- LOGON brings you back.
The usual mistake
Leaving without LOGOFF
Your session stays open. Anyone can use it, and every command goes under your name.
LOGOFF
On real z/OS
The logoff message here is the IBM one, IKJ56470I. The MF/OS terminal prints its own wording (IKJ56070I) instead, which IBM does not list. After a real LOGOFF the session ends and you see the logon screen. DISCONNECT and HOLD are not modelled.
Where can I practise LOGOFF?
Right here, at ZedBank. You take a junior job at a simulated bank and use LOGOFF in real work, with Zed beside you. There's nothing to install.
