CECI
A CICS transaction that lets you type an EXEC CICS command at the terminal and run it straight away.
Also written command-level interpreter, CECS, CICS command interpreter
CECI, the command-level interpreter, lets you run a CICS command without writing a program. You type the command after CECI, such as CECI READ FILE(ACCOUNTS) RIDFLD(00012345), and CECI checks it, shows its options, and runs it when you press Enter.
The results appear on the screen: the response, such as NORMAL or NOTFND, and the data that came back. That makes CECI useful for quick checks during development: does this record exist, what is on this queue, does the command do what I expect before I code it in a program?
CECS works the same way but only checks the syntax of a command, without running it.
Because CECI can run any command, including ones that write, delete and start transactions, it is a powerful tool. Sites restrict it with security so that it is available in development and test regions but not in production, where a mistyped command could change real data.
Where can I learn this hands-on?
Right here, at ZedBank. You take a junior job at a simulated bank and learn each part of the work by doing it, with Zed beside you. There's nothing to install.
